Byanyima says Besigye denied adequate medical care in Luzira prison

Nile Post reported on 26 January 2026 that Winnie Byanyima said her husband, detained opposition politician Kizza Besigye, was being denied adequate medical care at Luzira prison and was too weak to walk unaided. The Prisons spokesperson said Besigye had been taken for a check-up and was stable. Amnesty International later (12 February) issued an urgent action saying he needed urgent specialised care.
