Cabinet halts wetland and river buffer-zone evictions in Kigezi pending consultations, Bahati says

State Minister for Planning David Bahati told NRM party delegates in Kabale that Cabinet had decided to halt the ongoing restoration of rivers and wetlands in Kigezi sub-region, which involved removing residents, until authorities and residents reach agreement. According to ChimpReports, the Kabale district natural resources officer criticised politicians for opposing the exercise, which the Ministry of Water and Environment began in October.
