Children seen distributing campaign materials near polling stations in Nakawa Division on polling day

Electoral Malpractice Single source Kampala 28 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

The Independent reported that on polling day groups of children, some apparently of primary school age, held posters and handed out flyers for several candidates near polling stations in Ntinda and Kigowa–Kalinabiri, Nakawa Division. Two children told the reporter they were paid between Shs2,000 and Shs6,000 a day by contestants or their agents; some guardians said the children were helping relatives or had briefly been asked by agents to hold posters. The paper noted that electoral guidelines bar campaigning on polling day and the involvement of minors in partisan activity.
