Clinical officer at Masindi General Hospital arrested over alleged extortion of patient

According to the Daily Monitor, Masindi Deputy RDC Sanon Dhala said a man reported on 8 September 2026 that a clinical officer at Masindi General Hospital had demanded Shs200,000 to operate on his wife and later sought a further Shs300,000 after referring her to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Dhala said he directed police to investigate, which led to the health worker's arrest and detention at Masindi Central Police Station. The paper reports this is one of at least three arrests of health workers at the hospital, with 19 others referred to the district rewards and sanctions committee.
