Justice Ginamia Melody Ngwatu of the Commercial Court in Kampala ruled that a social media post by lawyer Silver Kayondo was protected by copyright and that Monitor Publications and NTV Uganda infringed it by altering and wrongly attributing his words in a September 2023 article. According to URN, the court rejected the defendants' fair-use defence, found false attribution and misrepresentation, and awarded Kayondo UGX 150 million in damages.
