Constitutional Court dismisses DP MPs' petition against the 2022 NRM-DP cooperation agreement

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Kampala 2 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, a five-justice panel of the Constitutional Court unanimously dismissed a petition by six Democratic Party MPs, led by Richard Lumu Kizito, challenging the 2022 cooperation agreement signed by DP President General Norbert Mao and President Museveni. The court found that the questions raised, including whether Mao had authority under the party constitution to sign the deal, concerned internal party governance rather than interpretation of the national Constitution.
