Cosase questions Departed Asians Custodian Board over property mismanagement and summons board leadership

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Kampala 2 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

Parliament's Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises questioned the Departed Asians Custodian Board's Executive Secretary, William Bizibu Semakula, over Auditor General findings on the management and disposal of properties left by Asians expelled in 1972, the Daily Monitor reported. MPs raised allegations that properties were shared among board members, given away without due process or sold using forged documents; the Executive Secretary acknowledged the board lacked a comprehensive property list. The committee resolved to summon the board's leadership, which is headed by the Finance minister.
