CP presidential candidate Joseph Mabirizi petitions Constitutional Court to halt January 2026 presidential election

Election Related Verified Kampala 19 Dec 2025 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, Conservative Party presidential candidate Joseph Mabirizi petitioned the Constitutional Court seeking to halt the 15 January 2026 presidential election until electoral reforms are made. The petition, as reported, raises concerns about the voter register, biometric verification machines, the military's role in elections and alleged partisan use of state resources, and argues that reforms ordered by the Supreme Court in 2016 were not implemented. Mabirizi told journalists in Kampala he would withdraw from the race if the concerns were ignored; the Electoral Commission did not immediately respond.
