DPP discontinues budget corruption case against MPs Mutembuli, Akamba and Namujju

Corruption & Abuse of Office Verified Kampala 6 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Director of Public Prosecutions filed a notice and a nolle prosequi, both dated 6 January 2026, telling the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court that the state would not continue the criminal case against MPs Yusuf Mutembuli, Paul Akamba and Cissy Namujju Dionizia. According to the Daily Monitor, the three had been charged in 2024 under the Anti-Corruption Act; the prosecution alleged they sought a 5 percent kickback from the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission. The trial had been halted after the High Court referred constitutional questions raised by Akamba's torture complaint to the Constitutional Court.
