According to URN, the DPP withdrew hate speech and malicious information charges against lawyer Male Mabirizi after the Constitutional Court nullified the Computer Misuse Act, then filed three counts of publishing fake news under the Uganda Communications Regulations and a charge of broadcasting without a licence. The prosecution alleges his TikTok posts in January 2026 falsely called senior judicial officers "conmen" and "fraudsters". Mabirizi refused to plead, citing double jeopardy, and was remanded until April 15, 2026, pending a ruling on his application for the magistrate to recuse herself.
