DPP opposes bail for PFF president Erias Lukwago in misprision of treason case at High Court

The Director of Public Prosecutions filed an affidavit asking the High Court Criminal Division to deny bail to People's Front for Freedom president Erias Lukwago, arguing he could interfere with witnesses and might abscond, The Independent (URN) reports. When the application came before Justice David Matovu on Friday, he directed both sides to file written submissions and set a ruling for 30 July. Lukwago's lawyer said his health was worsening on remand; prosecutors denied that he had been assaulted or mistreated in detention.
