EC tribunal disqualifies 11 Makindye Division mayoral candidates, leaving NRM's Yasin Omar unopposed

The Electoral Commission's Election Tribunal, chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama, disqualified 11 candidates in the Makindye Division mayoral race, finding that they had not submitted the required valid supporter signatures, and declared NRM candidate Yasin Omar unopposed. NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, whose party's candidate Bosco Lusagala was among those disqualified, and other affected candidates accused the Commission of bias, while Mr Omar said the Commission had acted correctly on his complaint.
