Electoral Commission deletes three Bukedea Woman MP aspirants from the voters' register

Election Related Disputed Bukedea 2025 (month not reported) Severity: 2/5

The Electoral Commission deleted Mercy Marion Alupo (NUP), Norma Susan Otai (FDC) and Hellen Akol Odeke (NRM), who sought to challenge Speaker Anita Among for the Bukedea Woman MP seat, from the voters' register after parish tribunals reportedly found them ineligible in their areas. NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi said the women were never invited to any tribunal hearing and called it an effort to shield the Speaker. In a High Court affidavit, EC Acting Secretary Richard Kamugisha Baabo said the Commission upheld the tribunals' decisions within the law and that the candidates did not contest them within the ten days given.

Disputed: Kyagulanyi and critics say the aspirants were never notified or heard by the tribunals, while the EC says it acted within the law and gave them ten days to contest the findings.
