Erias Lukwago committed to High Court on misprision of treason charge; bail hearing fixed for 24 July

The Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court committed former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to the High Court for trial on a charge of misprision of treason, and the High Court issued a production warrant directing Luzira Upper Prison to produce him before Justice David Matovu on 24 July 2026 for his bail application. Prosecutors allege he knew of an alleged plot to overthrow the government and failed to report it; Lukwago cites serious health conditions and argues he should be released on bail.
