A government directive limiting each gazetted landing site to 66 fishing boats took effect on March 2, 2026, according to the Daily Monitor; district officials said it was agreed at a February 10 meeting of the UPDF, district leaders and fisheries technical staff to curb overfishing on Lake Victoria.
