High Court Commercial Division orders Airtel Uganda to pay Shs1.1 billion in disputed tax to URA

Justice & Court Rulings Single source Kampala 25 Apr 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to URN, reported by The Independent, Justice Stephen Mubiru of the High Court's Commercial Division overturned a Tax Appeals Tribunal decision that had told the Uganda Revenue Authority to reassess Airtel Uganda's taxes on imported telecoms equipment. The judge held that URA was entitled to value the equipment using the declared price of identical goods because Airtel had not supported its declared price when asked, so Airtel must pay the additional assessment of 1.1 billion shillings.
