High Court declines bail for Erias Lukwago in misprision of treason case

Justice David Matovu of the High Court Criminal Division declined to grant bail to PFF president and lawyer Erias Lukwago, ruling that his application had been overtaken by his committal to the High Court and that no trial judge had yet been assigned. The judge found his sureties substantial and rejected the prosecution's flight-risk arguments as speculative, but said the medical evidence lacked certification from a Uganda Prisons Service medical officer; he directed that the medical reports be sent to prison authorities and that the case be allocated quickly.
