High Court dismisses Besigye and Lutale case against Gen Muhoozi over Karua deportation and Lukwago arrest

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Kampala 11 Aug 2026 Severity: 1/5

Acting High Court Judge Simon Peter M. Kinobe dismissed a human rights enforcement application in which Dr Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale argued that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the Attorney General had interfered with their right to legal representation through the exclusion of their lawyer Martha Karua and the arrest of Erias Lukwago. The judge found the social media posts attributed to Muhoozi did not prove he directed the immigration decision, that the accused still had a large defence team, and that the legality of Karua's exclusion should be challenged through judicial review. According to ChimpReports, the ruling was delivered electronically and each side was ordered to bear its own costs.
