High Court dismisses petition against election of five Workers' MPs over improper service and standing

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Kampala 20 Oct 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Daily Monitor reports that Justice Nshimye Allan Paul of the High Court in Kampala dismissed with costs a petition by Michael Bhamusangala Kamba challenging the election of five Workers' Members of Parliament. The judge upheld preliminary objections by the MPs and the Electoral Commission, finding the petitioner had not properly served the respondents, including through WhatsApp without read receipts, and had not established his standing. Kamba had alleged irregularities, chiefly the absence of a national voters' register for workers.
