High Court dismisses ULS president Ssemakadde's bid to stay two-year contempt sentence

Justice & Court Rulings Single source Kampala 17 Oct 2025 Severity: 2/5

ChimpReports reports that Justice Joyce Kavuma of the High Court in Kampala dismissed Uganda Law Society president Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde's application to stay his two-year sentence for criminal contempt. The court held it had no jurisdiction to stay a criminal sentence and that his remedy lay in his pending appeal at the Court of Appeal. Ssemakadde had argued the contempt ruling was made ex parte and denied him a fair hearing.
