High Court gives prosecution final chance on witness-concealment application in Besigye treason trial

Justice & Court Rulings Single source Kampala 25 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

At the High Court Criminal Division in Kampala, Justice Emmanuel Baguma heard the State's application to conceal the identities of six prosecution witnesses in the treason case against Kizza Besigye, Obeid Lutale and Capt Denis Oola, which the accused opposed in affidavits as a breach of their right to a fair hearing. After prosecutors arrived late and defence lawyers sought dismissal, the judge gave the prosecution a final opportunity, declined to award costs, and allowed the accused to cross-examine Chief State Attorney Joseph Kyomuhendo, who swore the supporting affidavit, on 24 April 2026.
