High Court in Kampala grants bail to civilian whose case awaited transfer from military court

According to the Daily Monitor, Justice Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya of the High Court in Kampala granted mandatory bail to John Masembe, alias Nassi, a civilian charged with treason, murder, aggravated robbery and illegal possession of firearms. The judge ruled that the State could not keep holding him on charges that, after a Supreme Court decision, can no longer be tried by a military court; he had spent months in custody waiting for his case to be moved to the ordinary courts.
