High Court in Kampala grants mandatory bail to civilian John Masembe awaiting transfer from military court

Justice Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya of the High Court in Kampala granted mandatory bail to John Masembe, alias Nassi, a civilian charged with treason, murder, aggravated robbery and illegal possession of firearms, according to the Daily Monitor. The judge ruled that the State could not keep holding him on charges that, following a Supreme Court ruling, can no longer be tried by a court martial, after he spent months in custody awaiting transfer of his file to ordinary courts.
