High Court quashes government listing of Watoto Church property in Kampala as a heritage site

According to ChimpReports, Justice Bonny Isaac Teko of the High Court nullified the listing of Watoto Church's Kampala Road and Buganda Road property as a historical site under the Museums and Monuments Regulations of 2024, finding it marred by illegality, irrationality and procedural impropriety. The judge found the government had not shown statutory conditions were met and the owners were not consulted, barred authorities from enforcing the listing and awarded costs to Watoto Church Ministries and Kampala Playhouse Limited. He rejected claims that the listing aimed to defeat an earlier judgment or amounted to compulsory acquisition.
