High Court rules IGG cannot summon advocates for information on their clients

Justice & Court Rulings Single source Kampala Jul 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 1/5

Acting Judge Simon Peter Kinobe of the High Court in Kampala ruled that the Inspector General of Government has no power to summon an advocate to disclose information obtained through the client-advocate relationship, according to URN. The ruling followed an application by lawyer Frank Kanduho Rwabosy, whom the IGG had summoned in an investigation into an alleged overpayment by UETCL to his former client; the judge said discipline of advocates rests with the Law Council.
