Uganda Governance Monitor
During a surprise inspection of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, the IGG's team reportedly found administrators and medical staff absent and critically ill patients unattended, and found that patients were being sent to buy drugs privately although the hospital had them in stock. A nursing assistant was arrested over alleged negligence and abuse of office and taken to police to record a statement. The acting hospital director apologised and cited intermittent drug shortages from National Medical Stores.
