Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Kampala 21 Dec 2025 Severity: 2/5

The Directorate of Immigration and Citizenship Control deported Dr Kymmberli Stowe, an American national who had been contesting her dismissal as principal of Heritage International School in Kansanga, after detaining her for at least three days, according to the Daily Monitor. Her lawyer, Victor Asiimwe, said immigration officials escorted her to Entebbe International Airport and that security personnel confiscated his phone when he tried to take photos. Human rights defenders cited in the article criticised the arrest and alleged she was denied access to her lawyers; the Directorate had issued no statement, while a senior Internal Affairs official said the departure followed an agreement with the American Embassy.
