Civic Space & Media Freedom Single source Kampala 30 Mar 2026 Severity: 2/5

According to URN, reported by The Independent, journalists were made to leave the International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala during plea bargain proceedings for suspects charged jointly with alleged former ADF commander Jamilu Mukulu. The division's Registrar, Juliet Harty Hatanga, told reporters they could not cover that day's session because of national security concerns, but would be allowed into later open-court sessions. The article says earlier plea agreements in the same case were also held without media access.
