Kabale District launches wetland restoration operation, warns encroachers of forced eviction

Environmental Issues Verified Kabale Aug 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 1/5

Kabale District authorities started an operation to restore wetlands, about 60 percent of which they estimate have been degraded. District Natural Resources Officer Henry Tumwesigye said that encroachers who do not leave voluntarily would be forcibly evicted, and that 19 recently degraded wetlands would be restored first. According to the Daily Monitor, LCV Chairman Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi said some encroachers hold valid land titles and would need compensation.
