Kabale High Court sentences police constable and two others to 35 years for 2022 murder of Indian businessman in Kisoro

The High Court in Kabale convicted police constable Elioda Gumizamu, of the Field Force Unit, and two civilians of murder and conspiracy to murder over the October 2022 shooting of businessman Kuntal Kumar Patel in Kisoro town, and sentenced them to 35 years. According to the prosecution, the constable was to be paid Shs20 million for the killing; the judge acquitted three co-accused, including Hetal Patel, for lack of proof. The defence lawyer said he would appeal.
