Kampala Lord Mayor Balimwezo rejects proposals to redevelop City Square

Kampala Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo told the Daily Monitor in a telephone interview that he rejects proposals to redevelop City Square (Constitution Square), saying the city's remaining open spaces must be kept for environmental protection, recreation and emergency response. The newspaper notes that a 2007 government order designated the square a protected historical and monumental site, barring commercial or private investment on it.
