Kampala traders' associations sue NEMA, KCCA and Hamis Kiggundu over Nakivubo channel construction

Environmental Issues Verified Kampala 3 Nov 2025 Severity: 1/5

Two traders' associations, KATA and UNATA, filed a suit in the High Court Civil Division against NEMA, KCCA, businessman Hamis Kiggundu and Kiham Enterprises, the Daily Monitor reports. The plaintiffs allege that construction over the Nakivubo Drainage Channel without environmental and planning approvals has caused flooding that destroyed traders' goods, and they seek an injunction, removal of obstructions and compensation; the defendants had not responded by press time.
