Kawempe court declines bail application of NUP's Eddie Mutwe and Achileo Kivumbi, citing lack of jurisdiction

Justice & Court Rulings Single source Kampala 30 Oct 2025 Severity: 2/5

The Kawempe Grade Two Magistrate's Court, presided over by Magistrate Steven Waidhuuba, declined to hear a bail application by Edward Sebuufu (Eddie Mutwe) and Achileo Kivumbi, bodyguards of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, who are charged with others over alleged illegal military drills. The magistrate said only the magistrate handling the case, who was indisposed, could consider it, while acknowledging the applicants had been on remand for 68 days without trial. Defence lawyer Samuel Muyiizi argued they qualify for mandatory bail, having been on remand since 14 August 2025.
