KCCA and police demolish roadside kiosks in Kampala central business district

Policy & Legislation Verified Kampala 19 Feb 2026 Severity: 3/5

According to ChimpReports, KCCA enforcement teams backed by police pulled down dozens of roadside kiosks and other structures in downtown Kampala overnight into Friday, after a two-week ultimatum to vendors expired. KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki said the operation was meant to protect pedestrians and keep drainage channels clear, and the authority said over 4,000 vacant market stalls were available. No major clashes were reported, while some vendors raised concerns about lost income.
