According to The Independent, KCCA issued a statement over the weekend directing street vendors to move to seven government markets, including Usafi, Busaga and Wandegeya, where it said 2,320 free stalls had been set aside, ahead of a government plan to clear vendors from city streets. Vendors' leader Ismail Mubiru of the Fuba-Tukole Walkers and Vendors Association told Uganda Radio Network the markets lacked space, and some vendors said they would defy the deadline.
