Environmental Issues Verified Mpigi 22 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Faridah Nakabugo said on Tuesday that KCCA had received no official directive to stop using the Buyala landfill in Mpigi District and would continue taking waste there until government provides an alternative site. KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Moses Kigenyi separately acknowledged safety risks from the site's proximity to a new fuel terminal and said KCCA had begun procuring a waste-to-value facility for the same land.
