The Uganda Prisons Service said detained opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye was discharged from Mulago National Referral Hospital on 7 August after ten days and returned to Luzira Prisons Hospital, and that his condition was improving. His wife Winnie Byanyima said he was removed after 7pm while still unable to walk or talk, after a visit by Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi, while the People's Front for Freedom called it a forcible removal by armed prison and military personnel and demanded his release for treatment abroad. In an 11 August statement, prisons spokesperson Frank Baine said his family and personal doctors had access to him and urged the public to disregard reports about his health.
