Luwero High Court restricts access and requires police accreditation for journalists at election petition hearings

Policy & Legislation Verified Luweero 14 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

Guidelines issued by the Luwero High Court Deputy Registrar for election petition hearings from 14 September limit each candidate to 15 companions, require security checks for all entrants including advocates, and bar firearms except for judges' bodyguards, the Daily Monitor reported. Journalists must seek accreditation at the Savannah Regional Police office, and courtroom photography needs express permission. The Deputy Registrar said the measures could be reviewed depending on the security situation.
