Minerals Ministry suspends unlicensed gold mining at Kanoni village, Kayungwe sub-county, Kanungu

State Minister for Minerals Phiona Nyamutoro inspected the site and ordered the immediate suspension of all mining, saying the land lies within an exploration licence held by Shiye Miners Company and the miners lacked licences, according to The Observer. The ministry cited environmental degradation and poor sanitation, and said it would help miners form a cooperative and obtain licences; the RDC warned that anyone resuming mining would be arrested.
