Newly built Shs40m Kankoko bridge collapses in Kanungu; RDC orders arrest of district engineer

The Observer reports that a section of Kankoko bridge in Kihembe sub-county, built by the Kanungu district works department at Shs40 million and completed about three months earlier, gave way after heavy rain. Deputy RDC Gaddie Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe alleged substandard materials and workmanship and said he had directed police to arrest district engineer January Silangi Mugaye and other works officials, who he said could not be found.
