The National Environment Management Authority, backed by police, the military and Ministry of Water and Environment officials, demolished houses, rental units and business structures in the Lubigi wetland in Kawaala Cell, Rubaga Division. The Daily Monitor reports that hundreds of families were left homeless; NEMA said in a statement that the evictions followed restoration orders under the National Environment Act and the expiry of a voluntary relocation period. Residents said they had a pending lawsuit, and a local councillor demanded compensation.
