NEMA orders restoration of Lake Victoria shoreline and halts works by two Munyonyo resorts

Environmental Issues Single source Kampala 9 Apr 2026 Severity: 1/5

The National Environment Management Authority issued a restoration order directing developers to restore an encroached lake-shore protection zone in Mulungu Village, Munyonyo Parish, and stop all works. NEMA said a fact-finding visit on 6 April found wall fences extending into Lake Victoria, about 70 metres linked to Dungu Resort Beach and 20 metres to White Pearl Resort, built without environmental impact assessment approval or permits. The authority said it would pursue enforcement, including prosecution.
