Security forces and Kyagulanyi campaign in standoff in Katakwi; candidate stopped from proceeding to Amuria

Election Related Disputed Katakwi Dec 2025 (day not reported) Severity: 2/5

Police said in a Wednesday night statement that NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi made unauthorised stopovers in Soroti District, addressed people by the roadside in Toroma and declined to go to the agreed venue in Katakwi Town Council, leading to a standoff with security officers of over 30 minutes; they said he was not allowed to proceed to Amuria Town because it was past authorised campaign hours. Kyagulanyi said the military and police blocked his movement and denied him access to accommodation his team had booked in Amuria and Soroti.

Disputed: Police say Kyagulanyi deviated from the approved campaign plan and authorised hours, while Kyagulanyi says security forces blocked his movement and his access to booked accommodation.
