Supreme Court orders responses to Kasibante's application to withdraw presidential election petition

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Kampala 5 Feb 2026 Severity: 2/5

According to The Independent, the nine Supreme Court justices led by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija met lawyers in closed session and directed President Museveni, the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General to respond to former candidate Robert Kasibante's application to withdraw his petition against the 15 January presidential election result. Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka said the planned ruling on Kasibante's request for electoral data had in effect lapsed and that his office would not oppose the withdrawal. Kasibante said he withdrew for lack of money and evidence, saying political parties had not delivered the support they promised.
