Tally centre data show about 94,000-vote gap between Kampala presidential and Woman MP ballots

Electoral Malpractice Disputed Kampala Jan 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 2/5

The Daily Monitor reported that Electoral Commission data released at the National Tally Centre showed about 430,000 presidential ballots in Kampala but only about 340,000 ballots, including invalid ones, in the Kampala Woman MP race held the same day. EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said some voters may have voted only for president and that an audit would be needed to confirm the figures, while human rights defender Dr Livingston Ssewanyana said the gap pointed to possible ballot stuffing or irregularities.

Disputed: Rights defender Livingston Ssewanyana says the gap suggests ballot stuffing or irregularities, while EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi says voters may have skipped the Woman MP ballot and that the figures need auditing.
