Tear gas and arrests on second day of Kampala traders' strike

On 5 November 2025, the second day of a traders' strike over taxes and rent, police fired tear gas into arcades on Ben Kiwanuka Street and Kikuubo Lane in downtown Kampala, Daily Monitor reported. A police spokesperson said 13 people were arrested for incitement and assaulting officers; some protesters taped their mouths shut.
