UCE exams start in Kampala with private teachers invigilating amid government teachers' strike

Protest & Civil Unrest Verified Kampala 13 Oct 2025 Severity: 2/5

According to the Daily Monitor, Uganda Certificate of Education exams began across Kampala while government teachers were on strike over unmet promises of salary increases, after striking teachers had vowed not to supervise the exams. Private school teachers took over invigilation at most centres, and school officials and the State Minister for Higher Education said the exams went ahead smoothly, although one centre reported a delay because some supervisors did not turn up.
