The UPDF Fifth Infantry Division handed back 16 trucks impounded for allegedly carrying charcoal and firewood in the Acholi and Lango sub-regions, after authorities judged the owners to be first-time offenders. According to The Independent, 11 of the trucks carried about 900 bags of charcoal bound for Central Uganda. Deputy Commander Col. Gai Fraser Mpadwa and Lira Resident City Commissioner Lawrence Egole warned that vehicles caught again would be auctioned, as enforcement of the ban on commercial charcoal trade in Northern Uganda continues.
