Corruption & Abuse of Office Single source Kampala 7 May 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Uganda Revenue Authority published a public notice accusing intermediaries it calls "container leaders" of withholding and delaying the clearance of traders' imported goods to evade taxes and overcharge importers, while blaming URA for the delays. The notice named a list of companies and individuals and warned them to stop the practice. Commissioner General John Musinguzi asked affected traders to bring their documents to URA Tower in Nakawa so their cargo could be traced and released.
