UWA and KCCA suspend removal of marabou stork and egret nestlings from Parliament precincts for 21 days

Environmental Issues Single source Kampala 27 Nov 2020 Severity: 1/5

The Uganda Wildlife Authority and Kampala Capital City Authority suspended the removal of marabou stork and egret nestlings from the Parliament area for 21 days so that eggs could hatch and chicks could fly, The Independent reports. The removal had begun on Monday after MPs complained the birds were a nuisance and a disease risk; UWA and UWEC had destroyed a few nests and relocated over 50 nestlings. A UWA manager said on Friday there were too many nestlings to relocate and that only nests without chicks or eggs should be destroyed.
